U.S. Transportation Security Administration Headquarters to Relocate to Alexandria

After undertaking a multi-year, regionally competitive process, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has announced that the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will move its headquarters to Alexandria.  The agency's new offices will be located at the Victory Center, an existing vacant office building owned by an investment fund managed by Prudential Real Estate Investors. The move is scheduled for 2017, when all new headquarters renovation and construction is completed.   

Alexandria Summer Restaurant Week

Explore the vibrant and diverse neighborhoods of Old Town, the West End and Del Ray to savor the flavors of Alexandria's distinctive collection of eateries, from fine dining to casual favorites, during Alexandria Summer Restaurant Week on August 21-30. More than 60 Alexandria restaurants will feature a $35 three-course dinner or a $35 dinner for two; and over two dozen restaurants will also offer lunch specials at $10, $15 or $20 per person in addition to their dinner specials.

Some mosquitoes in Alexandria have tested positive for West Nile virus, an annual problem throughout our region. Take time this weekend to remove containers and standing water around your home. Protect yourself from insect bites by covering up or applying repellant.

City Joins Energy Masters Program

The award-winning Energy Masters program, which trains volunteers in energy efficiency, water conservation, and community education and outreach, is expanding to Alexandria. Volunteers who complete the training course will engage in 40 hours of community service over the course of a year, providing education to Arlington and Alexandria residents who live in affordable housing while making improvements to their homes.

Summer Concert Schedule
Summer concerts highlight local talent and feature a wide range of music from flamenco to jazz and from pop rock to barbershop. All the performances are free and held outdoors featuring lawn seating, and attendees may bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Alexandria Marketing Fund
Applications are now being accepted for the Alexandria Marketing Fund, a grant program providing seed money in the form of matching funds for new and innovative marketing programs, or for the expansion of ongoing or pre-existing programs. The Fund is designed to increase revenues within the city by fostering public/private partnerships that promote Alexandria as a destination for visiting, shopping and dining, and doing business. The deadline for applications is September 8.
