The Beauregard Design Advisory Committee (BDAC) was created pursuant to Section 5-600 of the Zoning Ordinance by Ordinance No. 4814
. The BDAC is appointed by City Council and consists of nine members who serve 2-year terms. The role of the BDAC is to review development plans for compliance with the Beauregard Urban Design Standards and Guidelines. Applications are brought to the appointed citizen group as needed and are discussed at public meetings. The Committee will provide comments to applicants and staff to guide proposals and ultimately make written recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council.
For more than three years, residents, businesses, community organizations, neighboring civic groups, and property owners worked with the City to create a vision for development that will occur in the Beauregard area in the next 20 to 30 years. In 2012, the Alexandria City Council voted 6-0-1 to approve the Beauregard Small Area Plan. The final Beauregard Small Area Plan was adopted on June 16, 2012.
As part of the implementation process for the Beauregard Small Area Plan, the City is in the process of reviewing a proposal to establish a new Coordinated Development District (CDD) through amendments to the Zoning Map and Zoning Ordinance, and to adopt design guidelines for the Beauregard Small Area Plan.
