Google 4 Alexandria
Want more choice and competition for Internet access? Let Google know that we want them to choose Alexandria for their Fiber for Communities pilot.
Google is planning to test ultra-high speed internet access networks in one or more trial locations across the country. According to Google, these networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today.
Google is asking communities to submit responses to a Request for Information by March 26, to determine where to build the network.

4 Reasons
4 Alexandria
2 Want Google
- Speed
The Google network may be up to 20 times faster than current local options.
- Choice
Most Alexandrians have few (if any) choices about broadband access. Google can provide another option.
- Competition
Current broadband providers face little competition. Google can help push all providers to offer their best prices for services.
- Applications
An ultra-high-speed network can enable applications ranging from distance learning and telemedicine to municipal services and business innovations.

2 Want Alexandria
- Economic Strength
Alexandria has the 12th-highest average per capita income in the United States. That means lots of willing consumers.
- Population Density
Alexandria is one of the most densely populated medium-sized cities in the country. That means that every foot of Google's fiber will reach more potential customers.
- Access to Decision Makers
A stone's throw from Washington, D.C., Alexandria will be a showcase for Google within sight of the most powerful decision makers in America.
- Tech-Savvy Government
Our city government gets it when it comes to technology. We were the first to offer free outdoor wireless service in the DC area. We've been cited as one of America's top four Digital Cities in each year since 2005, and we've demonstrated the ability to negotiate innovative broadband agreements quickly and fairly.
