Join the AMP

WE NEED MENTORS! Just one to two hours per week can make a huge difference in the life of a child. No prior experience is required, as we provide extensive training in order to prepare new mentors to be effective.

Do you need a mentor?  Do you want to be a mentor?

  • If you are a parent/guardian or youth looking for a mentor, please review our list of "Current Mentor Programs" for more information about the location, age, and gender requirements for each program. To make a referral for a youth, please complete the "Contact the AMP" form on your left.
  • If you are a community member who is interested in investing one or two hours per week as a mentor, please review the "Current Mentor Programs" section for more information about the location, age, and gender information for each of our programs that are recruiting new mentors.

Interested in being a part of the AMP?
All groups (religious, community, or independent) in Alexandria that either currently offer mentoring for youth or are planning to start a mentoring program are encouraged to join the partnership.

  • If you represent a program that is currently providing mentors, please read the section of our webpage titled "Join the Partnership." Here, you can come to better understand the benefits of participating in the AMP and learn more about the requirements for our program partners.
  • If you are interested in starting your own mentoring program, please review the section of our webpage titled "Start a Mentoring Program," and contact the coordinator for the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership to learn more about the current needs and target areas for mentoring in the City of Alexandria. Mentoring Programs

Currently, the AMP works with ten unique and high-quality programs offering mentoring to the City's youth. A snapshot overview of each of these programs is provided below. To see more detailed information about the individual programs, click on the program in the chart. If you wish to learn more about how to get involved with any of these programs, please complete the "Contact the AMP" form, and the AMP coordinator will follow up with you via phone or email within 24 hours.

Join the Partnership

Thank you very much for your interest in joining the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership! Our mission is to offer our city's youth the support they need to thrive. Our collaboration works to support member organizations in maximizing mentor recruitment, screening, and training in order to ensure quality mentoring programs that reach all of Alexandria's youth. We are always seeking opportunities to engage both established programs and newer, start-up organizations programs that aim to provide mentors to Alexandria's youth.

If you represent a program that currently provides mentors, you are invited to join the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership in order to:

  • Have access to local, state support, and national support
  • Receive referrals of mentors and mentees
  • Participate in the AMP annual recruitment and support events for current and potential mentors

The AMP Memorandum of Understanding outlines a few requirements for all partners that join the organization. If you meet all of the requirements for membership, please submit your program's Memorandum of Understanding to the AMP coordinator.

If you are interested in starting your own mentoring program, contact the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership Coordinator by clicking here to learn more about the current needs and target areas for mentoring in the City of Alexandria.
