The Commission on Aging (COA) serves as the principal advocate for issues relating to aging and promotes the implementation of the Older Americans Act and other age-pertinent laws and policies in Alexandria and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Commission advances programs and services that address the needs of older Alexandrians, especially for (but not exclusively) low-income citizens.

Alexandria Commission on Aging Excellence in Aging Awards
The Alexandria Commission on Aging held its 2014 Excellence in Aging Awards on May 13. Each year the Excellence in Aging Awards are given to individuals and organizations that have shown exemplary efforts in helping the City’s older residents maintain their independence and live their lives to the fullest. This year’s award winners were:
