Rent or Mortgage Assistance
Homeless Intervention Program
This program provides financial assistance to income-eligible persons facing eviction or foreclosure through no fault of their own. Assistance is available to eligible households, while families regain self-sufficiency. For further information, please call 703.746.5700.
Emergency Shelter Fund
Provides rental and/or utility assistance to eligible, low-income persons facing a short-term crisis. Limited to once a year. Future self-sufficiency must be verified. Please call 703.746.5700.
Rent Relief Program
This program offers cash grants of up to $4,100 per year to low-income renters who are 65 or older or disabled and who have no other assistance to help pay their rent. Applications are filed annually and are due by May 1. Applications received after this date will be given a pro-rated benefit for the balance of the fiscal year.
Approved applicants will receive monthly benefits on a sliding scale based on their income. Combined income for all persons living in the home must be less than $25,600 per year, and the applicant must be 65 years of age or older, or have a complete and total disability. Applicants must provide proof of income and proof of disability if under the age of 65.
