Free Medicare counseling is available for City of Alexandria residents through the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) to help individuals understand and navigate Medicare insurance programs. Insurance counselors provide confidential assistance with the following:

  • Understanding Medicare, Medigap and managed care
  • Choosing a Part D Plan
  • Resolving Medicare claims or billing problems
  • Filing for Medicare-related benefits

 

VICAP Medicare counselors will be available on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m., by appointment only, at the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services, located at 2525 Mount Vernon Avenue. Speakers are also available to present information on Medicare Basic to community groups. Call 703.228.1726 to schedule an appointment, inquire about community presentations or for more information.
