Language Access Leadership Conference Scheduled
The 2nd Annual Northern Virginia Language Access Leadership Conference will be held Monday, December 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Founder’s Hall, 3351 Fairfax Drive on the George Mason University Arlington Campus. This year’s theme, “Make It Happen,” encourages leaders to improve quality of care, enhance operations and reduce disparities in access to services and outcomes for communities by guiding efforts to develop language access services across their organizations. While language access development can take many forms, a concerted effort by an organization’s executive director or chief executive officer is likely to have the greatest impact. Participants are invited to learn about and discuss the implementation, funding, sustainment, and evaluation of language services in government.
The keynote presentation, "What's New in the National CLAS Standards?" will be delivered by Darci L. Graves, Senior Health Education and Policy Specialist, SRA International, Inc.
Additional Workshops include:
- Linking Cultural Competence and Cultural Self-knowledge
- Enhanced CLAS Standards in Behavioral Health
- Emergency Planning Concepts in LEP Communities
- Recruiting, Retaining, and Managing Multicultural/Bilingual Staff
- Linking Language Services and Quality Assurance
- The Ethics of Interpreting
The event is free and all are welcome to attend to. Breakfast and refreshments will be served.
