Food Stamp Recipients
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Employment and Training Program (SNAPET) provides educational programs and services to enable food stamp recipients to find employment. The range of opportunities includes
» Employment English/Life Skills Courses
» Job search training,
» Transportation assistance and referrals to other services.
Dislocated Workers
Persons who have lost their jobs due to layoffs or downsizing and are receiving unemployment benefits may be eligible for employment training to re-enter the workforce. Meet with an employment training specialist to see if you qualify.
» Access to job training courses
»Subsidized and unsubsidized employment placements
»Job search assistance
»Information and referrals for supportive services, including transportation, medical exams, legal counseling, nutritious meals and recreation.
TANF Recipients
TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipients enrolled in the VIEW program (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) receive employment-related services from the Alexandria Works! teams. The broad range of services includes:
» Counseling
» Job search and job readiness training
» Community work experience
» Education and vocational training
» Employment English and life skills classes
» Supportive services including transportation and child care.
