Ice Well Tweetup
Gadsby's Tavern Museum - July 1, 2012
What is a tweetup? Why does the City of Alexandria host tweetups?
For general information, please see Alexandria Tweetups.
What was the goal of this event?
The goal of tweetups at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, owned and operated by the City of Alexandria, is to allow people to interact in person and via Twitter with the Museum and its related events. This tweetup was an opportunity to raise awareness of the Museum’s 18th century refrigerator -- the historic Ice Well -- while under restoration. This Ice Well played an important role in Alexandria’s hospitality industry and helped attract the likes of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson through its doors. At the tweetup, participants learned more about this hospitality history of Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and climbed down into the historic Ice Well itself! Participants tweeted about what they learned before, during, and after the event!
