What's New

  • Free Foreclosure Prevention Clinic Scheduled for January 30th

Housing Counseling Services will host a Foreclosure Prevention Clinic on January 30th at 5:30 p.m. in Conference Room 3 of the City of Alexandria Office of Housing, 421 King Street, Suite 200.  The Clinic is provided to help participants: 

  • Identify financial options and services available to homeowners that have defaulted or are in danger of defaulting on a mortgage,
  • Avoid predatory lenders and foreclosure rescue scams that prey on homeowners facing foreclosure,
  • Meet individually with a housing counselor and get answers to your questions. 

Housing Counseling Services is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) -approved housing counseling organization funded to provide free training and counseling to tenants, homebuyers and homeowners. Counseling will be offered in both English and Spanish.

  • Coming Soon - The Northern Virginia Housing Expo - March 24th

The second annual Northern Virginia Housing Expo is scheduled for March 24th.  Showcasing both homeownership and rental opportunities and resources throughout Northern Virginia, the event will be held from 10 am until 2:30 pm and will feature workshop and exhibits designed to educate attendees about location options, being prepared for buying or renting and more.  The expo is being held at Arlington’s Washington-Lee High School at 1301 North Stafford Street, which offers free parking and is just four blocks north of the Virginia Square Metro station.

  • Homeownership Opportunities at Old Town Commons

The developer of Old Town Commons continues to market condominium units at Old Town Commons.  A $10,000 deposit is required to secure your condominium reservation, however, EYA will accept a partial payment at the time a reservation is signed. City homeownership loan assistance may be available to eligible buyers to cover a portion of the reservation deposit amount, subject to City Council approval later in October. To discuss assistance and eligibility, please call the Office of Housing at (703) 746-4990.

About the Office of Housing 

The Office of Housing (703-746-4990, TTY 703-838-5056, fax 703-706-3904) coordinates and administers City housing and housing-related programs and services, and makes recommendations to the City Manager and City Council on housing policy for the City. Its major divisions are Program AdministrationLandlord-Tenant Relations and Program Implementation, all of which are located at 421 King Street, Suite 200. The Office of Housing also works closely with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) on housing issues.

A portion of the City's housing activities are funded through annual grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) via its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) program.  The Office of Housing also works with housing programs which are funded and/or administered by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA).
