Driver's License Ceremony

Under Virginia Law young drivers must receive their regular driver's license from a judge of the Juvenile Court, unless the judge allows an exception for something unusual such as a child being in school out of state. The Juvenile Court holds these drivers license ceremonies at 8:00 a.m. periodically during the year when the child and his or her parent come to the court. The Clerk of Court provides notice to the parents and the child.

The ceremony usually includes comments by the judge, a police officer, and a representative of the Alexandria Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) to make sure that there is an understanding of the consequences for violating the law and/or the rules of the home.
