Bicycle Lane Installed on Slater's Lane

Following a public meeting on Thursday, September 20 and Traffic and Parking Board approval on Monday, September 24, bicycle lanes have been installed on Slater’s Lane between the George Washington Parkway and Portner Road. This installation was part of the 2008 City Council approved Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Plan. These lanes provide an important link to the Mount Vernon Trail, which is one of the most frequently used trails in the City, connecting Del Ray, Arlandria, and the future Potomac Yard to regional bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

City Receives Positive Assessment of Housing Activities Under Federal HOME Program

The City has received a positive assessment of its management of housing activities funded through the federal HOME Program. The results of comprehensive, on-site monitoring, conducted July 24-27 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), identified no findings or concerns about the City’s performance. The monitoring results conclude that the City is operating its program in accordance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of the HOME Program. The HOME Program is an important source of federal funding that communities use to fund a wide range of activities that build, buy, and/or rehabilitate affordable housing for rent or homeownership. HOME requires that communities match 25 cents of every dollar in program funds to provide community resources in support of affordable housing.

The parks included in this process include Four Mile Run Park, Simpson Stadium Park, Chinquapin Park, Hensley Park, Holmes Run Park, and Ben Brenman/Armistead L. Boothe Parks. The goal of this effort is to study and understand the existing conditions and plan for future needs in each of the parks.
