Call.Click.Connect. is the City's new system for entering, tracking, and resolving service requests, and is designed to improve customer service and help the City respond more efficiently to requests from the public. With Call.Click.Connect. both customers and employees will be able to create and track requests for service either online or by calling the City's Contact Center at 703.746.HELP. Call.Click.Connect. is currently being tested and is expected to officially launch on January 28.
Update on Oronoco Outfall Remediation Project
The City's Department of Transportation & Environmental Services, Office of Environmental Quality (OEQ) is working on the next step in a long-planned remediation project within the zero block of Oronoco Street to eliminate discharge of oily substances associated with a formerly City-owned site, formerly a manufactured gas plant a few blocks from the Potomac River. Pile driving in the zero block of Oronoco Street is scheduled to begin in early February and last for approximately one week. As required by the noise code, pile driving will be limited to Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; adjacent residences and business will be notified before the work begins.
Police Department Prepares for 29th Citizens Police Academy
The Police Department's 29th Citizens Police Academy will begin Wednesday, March 13. This free, 10-week course is designed to familiarize residents with various aspects of the Police Department. The Academy focuses on administrative philosophy, internal polices and the guiding principles of law and ethical conduct governing the delivery of police services. The Academy curriculum retains all of the core elements essential for residents to gain a greater understanding of police operations. The Police Citizens Academy will be held Wednesdays, from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., at the Police Department's new building at 3600 Wheeler Avenue. The course will be taught in the Community Room on the first floor. The graduation will be held Wednesday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m.
Alexandria Celebrates Presidential Inauguration with Day of Service
On Saturday, January 19, the City of Alexandria, Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority, Alexandria City Public Schools and Volunteer Alexandria will celebrate the 57th Presidential Inauguration with a Day of Service. This Day of Service is designed to teach Alexandria's elementary school-aged children the importance of giving back to their community. Teen and adult volunteers will engage city youth in reading activities geared towards the creation of their very own storybook, which will be signed thereafter by the First Family. Participants will also receive books at the end of the day. The event will take place in three locations: the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center, 1108 Jefferson St.; Charles Barrett Recreation Center, 1115 Martha Custis Dr.; and the T.C. Williams High School Satellite location at Landmark Mall.
