Alexandria Commission for the Arts Holds
Public Hearing on Acquired Art Policy
Tuesday, July 15

Community members are invited to attend a public hearing on the City of Alexandria’s  Policy on Acquired Art on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center (1605 Cameron St.). The purpose of the public hearing is to gather community input on proposed revisions to the City’s Policy on Acquired Art.

On June 24, City Council received the Commission for the Arts’ recommendations for changes to the current policy. Comments from the public will be reported to City Council at their September 13, 2008 meeting.

The purpose of the Policy on Acquired Art is to encourage private and public entities to further the development and public awareness of art and cultural activities in the City of Alexandria. The goal is to integrate art into the City and to encourage economic development, stimulate interest in art, and enhance Alexandria’s reputation as a national leader in the arts. This Policy seeks to provide for future artistic endeavors and the promotion of Alexandria’s cultural heritage, strengthen community pride and foster tourism. To view the City’s Policy on Acquired Art, visit the Commission for the Arts Web site at www.alexandriacommissionforthearts.org or visit alexandriava.gov/recreation.
