City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Inauguration Day
Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20 

All Alexandria City government offices will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and on Tuesday, January 20 in observance of the Presidential Inauguration.

Alexandria City Public Schools: The Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20.

Recreation Centers: On January 19 and 20, Alexandria recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Chinquapin Recreation Center, which will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on January 19 and 20. The Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center will be closed on January 19 and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 20.
 
Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be closed January 19 and 20.

Transit: Alexandria Transit Company’s DASH bus service will be operating on a Saturday schedule on Monday, January 19. On Tuesday, January 20, DASH will be operating on an enhanced Saturday schedule and will be free of charge. For details, visit www.dashbus.com/s02_inaugurationchedule.html. The free King Street Trolley will run an extra two hours on January 20, with the last trolley departing from King Street Metro Station at 12:10 a.m., Wednesday morning.

Refuse Collection: Residential trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, January 19. All collections will be delayed one day.

Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on January 19 and 20.

On Tuesday, January 20, the following restrictions will be in effect:

  • Montgomery Street: No parking between North Washington Street and Henry Street (Route 1 South)
  • King Street: No parking between Fairfax Street and Royal Street

State Offices: The General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Friday, January 16 and Monday, January 19. The DMV Office at 2681 Mill Road will be closed on January 16 and January 19. The Circuit Court will be closed on Friday, January 16; Monday, January 19; and Tuesday, January 20.

Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.) and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) will be closed on Friday, January 16 and Monday, January 19. The Adolescent Health Center (3701 W. Braddock Rd.) will be closed on Friday, January 16; Monday, January 19; and Tuesday, January 20.
