Monday, October 5 – Voter Registration Deadline for November 3 Election
The deadline to register to vote in the November 3 General Election for Governor is Monday, October 5 at 5 p.m. Mailed registration applications must be postmarked October 5. The Voter Registration Office at 132 N. Royal St. will be open Saturday, October 3 for voter registration. For more information, call 703.746.4050 or visit www.alexandriavoter.org.
Monday, October 5 – 2009 Business Personal Property Taxes Due
The City of Alexandria reminds taxpayers that the 2009 Business Personal Property Tax is due October 5 from all businesses that were operating in the City as of January 1. Payment in full must be received or postmarked by October 5 to avoid penalties and interest. If you have not received a business personal property tax bill, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 703.746.3903. You may also e-mail email@example.com or call 703.746.3902. Businesses that have had a change of address and have not previously reported this change to the City should contact Business Tax so that a bill can be provided for them prior to the October 5 due date.

The City of Alexandria reminds taxpayers that the 2009 Vehicle Personal Property Tax is due October 5 from all vehicle owners who lived in the City for all or part of calendar year 2009. Payment in full must be received or postmarked by October 5 to avoid penalties and interest. Monday, October 5 – Old Town North Urban Design Advisory Committee Meeting
The Old Town North Urban Design Advisory Committee (UDAC) will meet, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., in Room 2000, City Hall, 301 King St. UDAC reviews development projects that occur within the Old Town North Urban Overlay District for compliance with the urban design guidelines for Old Town North. Monday, October 5 – Potomac Yard Planning Advisory Group

Tuesday, October 6 – Deadline for Comments on Naming of Charles Houston Recreation Center’s Gymnasium and Pool
The City of Alexandria held a public hearing to review and receive comment on the proposal to name the Charles Houston Recreation Center gymnasium and pool in honor of African Americans in Alexandria who, from 1920 to 1965, played a significant role in the struggle for equal educational opportunity. Thursday, October 8 – Invitation for Public Input: Proposed Windscreens
The Mirant Community Monitoring Group and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) extend an invitation for public input for the proposed windscreens for the coal pile at the Mirant Potomac River Generating Station. Thursday, October 8 – Synthetic Turf Tour at Fort Ward Park Field
In anticipation of the installation of the City’s next synthetic field construction project, Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA) staff will host a tour of the synthetic turf athletic field located at Fort Ward Park, 4301 W. Braddock Rd., at 7:15 p.m. The tour will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about synthetic turf athletic fields and full cut-off athletic field lighting. Saturday, October 17 – FY 2011 Fall Budget Public Hearing
The Alexandria City Council invites the general public to attend its regularly scheduled public hearing to offer comments regarding the FY 2011 budget. The public hearing will be held in City Council Chambers (Room 2400), 301 King St., beginning at 9:30 a.m. Due to the difficult economic conditions the City faces, residents are encouraged to take advantage of an early opportunity to present their views and priorities directly to City Council and City staff.
Call for Artists for Alexandria Police Memorial
The City of Alexandria has issued a Call for Artists for the Alexandria Police Memorial at the Alexandria Police Department headquarters, 3534 Wheeler Ave., currently under construction. The City is conducting the search for qualified applicants through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ.)
