Registration for Winter 2015 classes and activities opens Wednesday, December 10 for City residents and Friday, December 12 for nonresidents. Register online or in-person at the new Registration & Reservation Office located at the Lee Center at 1108 Jefferson St. The Registration & Reservation Office, a single source for information about recreation programs, facilities and reservations, is open for walk-in or phone support at 703.746.5414 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Now in its 29th year, this favorite DC-area Christmas Eve event comes to Old Town Alexandria for the very first time on Wednesday, December 24 at 1 p.m. Gather at Alexandria's Potomac River waterfront for a spectacular show by the Waterskiing Santa and his wakeboarding reindeer, plus flying elves, the Grinch and his friends, Frosty the Snowman, and Jack Frost. And this year's show will feature a new, never-seen-before act in the Washington, DC area.
Enjoy fun for the entire family at First Night Alexandria, the best New Year’s Eve party in the region! First Night Alexandria is hosting dozens of indoor venues throughout Old Town, featuring continuous musical performances until the fireworks on the river at midnight.

On May 1, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to adopt a $636.8 million General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015, which begins July 1, 2014. Despite challenging economic conditions, the goal of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is to maintain its core services. As costs continue to increase in providing core services to residents, some service adjustments have been made. In alignment with its goal to provide high quality customer service, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is pleased to announce two new customer service enhancements. A Registration & Reservation Office is now open to provide customers with a one-stop-shop to get information and to register for programs, activities and facility reservations.

The Advisory Group was re-established by City Council resolution in June 2011. The group will provide City staff recommendations on the appropriate balance of park uses, as well as implanting education and outreach opportunities and implantation of recommendations made in the 2011 Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Stakeholder Advisory Group report.
