Registration for Winter 2015 classes and activities is open. Register online or in-person at the new Registration & Reservation Office located at the Lee Center at 1108 Jefferson St. The Registration & Reservation Office, a single source for information about recreation programs, facilities and reservations, is open for walk-in or phone support at 703.746.5414 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

On Saturday, March 7, celebrate Irish Heritage Month and St. Patrick’s Day in Old Town Alexandria. Begin your day with judging of the Classic Car Show at 10 a.m., and the Fun Dog Show in Market Square at 11:15 a.m., followed by the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 12:30 p.m.
Commissions compose a formal system through which citizens can advise City Council on issues affecting the City. Commission meetings are open to the public and vacancies are posted on the Boards & Commissions
website. RPCA's commissions include the Beautification; Commission for the Arts; Park & Recreation; and Waterfront.
Summer camps and activities are available for youth ages 2-17 and include sports, dance, creative arts, computer, chess, enrichment, nature, adventure, Out of School Time (residents only) and classic camps. Consistent with the City Council approved 2003 Windmill
Hill Park Plan, the City of Alexandria is working with a design team led by
Kimley-Horn, with input from the community, to implement the replacement of the
current bulkhead and shoreline improvements.
On May 1, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to adopt a $636.8 million General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015, which begins July 1, 2014. Despite challenging economic conditions, the goal of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is to maintain its core services. As costs continue to increase in providing core services to residents, some service adjustments have been made. In alignment with its goal to provide high quality customer service, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is pleased to announce two new customer service enhancements. A Registration & Reservation Office is now open to provide customers with a one-stop-shop to get information and to register for programs, activities and facility reservations.

Parks viewer is a GIS-based tool that includes a searchable map of all publicly accessible open space in Alexandria. You can use it to search for facilities, including playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation centers, and park acreage. Once you visit, please use feedback feature in the Parks Viewer so we can know if you are able to find what you are looking for or how we can improve the site.

The Advisory Group was re-established by City Council resolution in June 2011. The group will provide City staff recommendations on the appropriate balance of park uses, as well as implanting education and outreach opportunities and implantation of recommendations made in the 2011 Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Stakeholder Advisory Group report.
