Registration for Fall classes and activities begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13 for City residents and Friday, August 15 for nonresidents. Register online, in-person or by phone at the new Registration & Reservation Office located at the Lee Center at 1108 Jefferson St. The Registration & Reservation Office, a single source for information about recreation programs, facilities and reservations, is now open for walk-in or phone support at 703.746.5414 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In alignment with its goal to provide high quality customer service, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is pleased to announce two new customer service enhancements. A Registration & Reservation Office is now open to provide customers with a one-stop-shop to get information and to register for programs, activities and facility reservations.

The Potomac Yard Park Interactive Fountain, located at 2501 Potomac Ave. between the two playgrounds, is open and operates daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The fountain features thirty-six water jets, including twelve laminar jets which shoot a stream of water between two troughs and lighting at the jets for nighttime effects. The fountain offers three programmable sequences, and sensors control the water jet height based on the wind speed.
The City's outdoor pools are now open daily. The Old Town Pool and Warwick Pool are open from noon to 7 p.m. The Memorial Pool at Charles Houston Rec Center is open from noon to 6 p.m. Prefer to be out of the sun? The Chinquapin Aquatics Facility is open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday & Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Summer concerts highlight local talent and feature a wide range of music from flamenco to jazz and from pop rock to barbershop. All the performances are free and held outdoors featuring lawn seating, and attendees may bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Summer camps and activities are available for youth ages 2-17. Registration for 2014 Summer Camps is now open.
On May 1, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to adopt a $636.8 million General Fund Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015, which begins July 1, 2014. Despite challenging economic conditions, the goal of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is to maintain its core services. As costs continue to increase in providing core services to residents, some service adjustments have been made. The Advisory Group was re-established by City Council resolution in June 2011. The group will provide City staff recommendations on the appropriate balance of park uses, as well as implanting education and outreach opportunities and implantation of recommendations made in the 2011 Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Stakeholder Advisory Group report.
