City of Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Plan for the Interim Open Space at 600 North Henry Street on January 16

The Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing on the draft plan for the open space property at 600 North Henry Street at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 16 at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe Street. The proposed plan will be posted online beginning Friday, January 10 at www.alexandriava.gov/Recreation.

This public hearing is an additional opportunity for the community to review the design for interim public open space in the Braddock neighborhood, located on the city-owned parcel at 600 N. Henry Street. The interim open space, slated for construction in mid-2014, is for use and enjoyment by residents until such point as the block redevelops and the full 1 acre park called for in the Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan is constructed.

The Braddock Implementation Advisory Group and the community held public meetings to discuss the open space over the fall, providing feedback to the City on the preferred layout, design and potential small-scale activities that could occur for the interim open space. For more information, contact Laura Durham, Open Space Coordinator, at laura.durham@alexandriava.gov or visit Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan Implementation.

Individuals who are unable to attend the public hearing may send written comments on the proposed plan to the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, Attention: William Chesley, Deputy Director, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria, VA 22314; e-mail william.chesley@alexandriava.gov; or fax to 703.684.6826 by 5 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the American with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or to request materials in an alternative format, please call William Chesley at 703.746.5426 (VA Relay 711) or e-mail william.chesley@alexandriava.gov.
