Spring into Sports: Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Offers a Variety of Adult Sport Options

The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities offers a variety of ways for adults ages 18 and over to get active this Spring. Sports leagues, social sports and open play are all great ways to spend time with friends, unwind after work, get fit, and have fun.

Team registration is currently being accepted for Coed Volleyball, Coed Soccer, Coed Softball, Men’s Softball, 3 Outs Coed Softball, and Late Night Basketball. Registration forms are available in City recreation centers and online at alexandriva.gov/Recreation. The deadline for registering for Adult Sports Leagues is March 21, 2014. For more information, contact Marvin.Elliott@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.5409.

Drop-in social sports being offered this Spring include: Coed Ultimate Frisbee and Dodgeball at Charles Barrett Recreation Center; Coed Pickleball, Coed Adult Basketball, and Senior Women's Basketball at Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center; and Coed Volleyball and Pickleball at Charles Houston Recreation Center. For dates, times and fees, please contact the hosting site. Contact information and addresses can be found at alexandriava.gov/RecreationCenters.

City residents who prefer even less structure are invited to “Rock Your Park” with free community open play. Beginning March 17, Witter Recreational Fields and Ben Brenman Soccer Field will be available for use Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eugene Simpson Soccer Fields will be available for open play Saturdays and Sundays, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Families, friends and neighbors of all ages are encouraged to get active by playing soccer, lacrosse, touch football, rugby and more. Spring open play takes place through June 20, 2014. For a complete list of guidelines or more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Recreation, email Mac.Slover@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.5402.
