Gear Up for After School Fun: Register Now for School Year Power-On and Power-Up Programs

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is currently accepting registrations for the 2014-2015 School Year Power-On and Power-Up after school recreation programs. Organized by age groups, youth will maintain a full schedule of age-appropriate activities incorporating play, learning, cultural enrichment and positive social interaction. Activities include creative and performing arts, homework time, sports, fitness, holiday and family events and much more.

Power-On for grades K-6 is offered weekdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:

  • John Adams Elementary School, 5651 Rayburn Ave.
  • Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, 1101 Janney’s Ln.
  • Charles Barrett Recreation Center, 1115 Martha Custis Dr.
  • Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St.
  • Cora Kelly Recreation Center, 25 West Reed Ave.
  • Mount Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave.
  • Patrick Henry Recreation Center, 4643 Taney Ave.
  • William Ramsay Recreation Center, 5650 Sanger Ave.

Power-Up for grades 6-8 is offered at Francis C. Hammond Middle School, 4646 Seminary Rd., weekdays from 3:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. A transportation option is available for students attending George Washington Middle School.

Register online at or by visiting the Registration & Reservation Office at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St., Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Applications for payment plans or financial assistance must be made in person and parent information packets are required to complete registration.
