Edsall Road Reconstruction Project:

What's New?

• Milling and paving on Edsall Road will begin the week of April 29, and is expected to be finished mid-July. This work will take place Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There may be significant local traffic impacts and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Variable message signs will be posted to alert drivers and provide detour information.

The Edsall Road Reconstruction project consists of reconstructing Edsall Road, from South Whiting Street to the City border with Fairfax County.  The existing pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalks are currently deteriorating, and have required high maintenance over the past ten years, including patching, repairs and replacement of asphalt, curb and gutters, and sidewalks.

This reconstruction project involves milling and removal of existing pavement, and replacing it with a new pavement section; removal and replacement of curb, gutter and sidewalk at some locations. It also provides improved pedestrian access and safety by installing marked pedestrian crosswalks, ADA compliant ramps and pedestrian signals at intersections controlled by traffic lights.
The project will be financed by a State Revenue Sharing program. A State match of  $1,460,904  has been approved for the years 2010 and 2011.

The project is expected to start in September of 2012, and will last for approximately six months.
A public information meeting was held on March 7, 2012.
