City Solicits Naming Suggestions for New Park

The City of Alexandria is seeking suggestions for the name of the new park at the foot of King Street. The public is invited to participate in an online survey now through Nov. 16, and a public hearing on November 15. The new park will serve as the keystone to the revitalization of the Potomac River waterfront in Alexandria.

City Prepares for 2020 U.S. Census, Seeks Applicants for Complete Count Committee

As part of the City of Alexandria's planning to promote an accurate count of the city's population in the 2020 U.S. Census, interested residents are encouraged to apply to join the Alexandria Complete Count Committee. The Census is an opportunity for all Alexandrians to be counted, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or place of birth. Census data will be used for the next 10 years to ensure residents are fairly represented in state and federal government, and that Alexandria receives its fair share of federal and state funding for local programs.

Get Fired Up for the Cause: Breast Cancer Awareness

Throughout the month of October, you can support the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Awareness Memorial Fund by purchasing a pink Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt from the Alexandria Fire Department and the Alexandria Commission for Women.

City Leaf Collection Program Begins November 5

The City will begin its annual leaf vacuuming and leaf bag collection program on Monday, Nov. 5. Leaf collection is expected to continue into January. Residents have the option of raking leaves to the curb for City vacuum trucks, bagging them for curbside collection, or composting their leaves at home.

New Financing Opportunity for First-Time Homebuyers

Community Homeownership Revitalization Program (CHRP) funds can provide first-time homebuyers with permanent financing for their home purchases. CHRP funding supports the City of Alexandria's efforts to increase affordable homeownership for income-qualified first-time homebuyers.
