November 6 Election Day Voter Checklist

Tuesday, November 6, there will be a General Election for U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Alexandria Mayor, City Council and School Board, and two proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What You Need to Know About ACA Health Insurance
Open Enrollment

The City urges residents interested in getting insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act to sign up by Dec. 15. The annual open enrollment period is from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15. The City is hosting a trained Navigator to assist residents, by appointment, in obtaining health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act before the open enrollment period ends. Persons already covered by ACA and eligible for the newly expanded Medicaid coverage should have a Medicaid eligibility screening or application to determine which coverage options are best for them. Enrollment for the new Medicaid coverage began Nov 1.

City Launches Landmark Mall Re-Planning Process

The Landmark Mall Re-Planning Process, identified as a priority of Alexandria City Council's approved Fiscal Year 2019 Long-Range Planning Work Plan, will officially launch with a community meeting on Nov. 14. This process will build from the existing community vision, established in the 2009 Landmark/Van Dorn Corridor Plan, for a new Landmark Mall as a mixed-use center with transit and community open spaces.

Alexandria Health Department is working alongside community partners to review the factors that impact health in Alexandria. This community health assessment (CHA) will lay the foundation for a plan to address the health issues Alexandria residents have identified.

Archaeology Award Winners Announced

The Alexandria Archaeological Commission (AAC) is proud to announce winners of the annual Brenman Archaeology Award. S. Kathleen Pepper, Outstanding Preservation Advocate, and Francine Bromberg, Outstanding City Archaeologist, were honored at the Oct. 9 City Council meeting.

Historic Ship Discoveries Update

The City of Alexandria, developer EYA, LLC., and a team of archaeologists and other experts continue to make progress in the research and excavation of three ships discovered at the Robinson Landing construction site on the Alexandria Waterfront in early 2018. Take a look at the progress on Robinson Terminal South Ship #3.
