City of Alexandria Academies

City academies offer residents the opportunity to learn about the City of Alexandria government, how it is being run and the many programs and services it offers to the residents.

The City of Alexandria provides residents with opportunities to learn about the City government and the various services it offers to the community. These programs are offered free to residents. Application period for the academies are announced weeks in advance of the sessions. Please visit the specific websites to obtain more information about the programs. 

City Academy
The Alexandria City Academy is a nine-week course that provides residents with the opportunity to learn about City government through first-hand experience with a wide range of government functions, services, activities and issues.

Citizens Police Academy
The ten-week Alexandria Citizens Police Academy allows residents to learn about various aspects of the Police Department, such as administrative philosophy, internal policies and the guiding principles of law and ethical conduct governing the delivery of police services.

Senior Academy
This four-week course is designed to give Alexandria seniors an opportunity to gain exposure to the City's many government functions, to introduce them to local organizations that provide services and programs to the elderly, and to help seniors get involved. Enrollment is limited to 25 City residents ages 60 and older. Light refreshments are served each week during the sessions.
