Virginia Energy Assistance Fuel (Heating) Program

Provides heating assistance during the winter months to income-eligible households. Assistance includes:

  • Payment of heating bills
  • Repair of heating equipment
  • Delivery of oil, etc.

Apply for this and other benefits on-line at  CommonHelp or call 1.855.635.4370.  Heating assistance applications are accepted from the second Tuesday in October until the second Friday in November.  For more information, call 703.746.5700.

Virginia Energy Assistance Cooling Program

Provides cooling assistance to income-eligible households with a senior 60 years of age or older, a child under the age of six or a permanently and totally disabled individual.  Apply for this and other benefits on-line at  CommonHelp or call 1.855.635.4370. For more information, call 703.746.5700.

Energy Share Program

The Dominion Virginia Power Fuel Fund provides financial assistance to income-eligible households with a heating bill if the service is in danger of being cut-off or has been cut-off. Call 703.746.5700 or call the Salvation Army at 703.836.2427.

Washington Area Fuel Fund

Provides assistance with heating payments for income-eligible households in danger of losing their primary source of heat. This program is administered by the Salvation Army, 107 E. Bellefonte Ave., Alexandria, 703.836.2427. 

Seasonal Warming and Cooling Options and Centers

During the summer and winter months, the City of Alexandria offers several locations as options to those without heating or cooling in their homes as well as heating and cooling centers during periods of extreme heat and cold. Learn more.
