Skills UpAlexandria and Arlington residents can now access more than 5,500 free online job skills training courses as part of SkillUp, an initiative of the Alexandria/Arlington Regional Workforce Council, City of Alexandria Workforce Development Center and the Arlington Employment Center.

Designed with input from regional employers, the program can help workers who are recently laid-off and plan to return to their former employer as well as those who are looking to change careers.

Users will have six months of free access to self-paced workplace, business, technical and IT courses delivered via the Metrix E-Learning System. Users unsure of their career goal can explore opportunities in 10 different career tracks which target in-demand jobs within the DC Metro region.

Popular courses include Project Management, Microsoft Word & Excel, HIPAA, Human Resources, Accounting, Food Industry Standards, Leadership and Team Building. There are also courses available in computer and IT fields such as Networking, CompTIA, Windows, Adobe and Information Security.

To view the online course catalog and get a free online learning license, visit alexandriaarlington.skillupamerica.org. The system requires high-internet connection. Those who lack internet access, computer skills or want assistance can contact WDC at wdc@alexandriava.gov and 703.746.5990 or the Arlington Employment Center at jobseeker@arlingtonva.us and 703.228.1400.

The initiative is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration/Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and Virginia Community College System.
