Rapid Response Program Provides Employment Services For Those Impacted by Airline Industry Related Layoffs
A DCHS CONNECT FEATURE
October 21, 2020--The Workforce Development Center is partnering in a regional effort to provide support and services to Northern Virginians whose employment has been affected by the reduction in air travel.
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly reduced air travel across the nation and regionally, impacting both Ronald Reagan Washington National and Dulles International airports and affiliated industries and employers that are dependent on air travel, such as car rental companies, airport restaurants, airport stores, and adjacent hotels and lodging.
The Northern Virginia Airports Rapid Response Layoff Services, a regional effort of Virginia Career Works-Northern and the Alexandria/Arlington Regional Workforce Council, provides free employment assistance programs and career development services to individuals who have been laid off or furloughed from airline industry related employers and reside in Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington counties and the City of Alexandria.
Programs and services include free job training, paid work experiences, career coaching, resume writing assistance, job readiness workshops, online job fairs, virtual training and financial coaching.
The program is funded by an award of $240,665 in Rapid Response funds from the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Dislocated Worker Program to provide additional assistance due to the high number of layoffs in regional airline industry related employers, who have laid off or furloughed employees due to enormous losses of customers.
