Regional Event for Parents and Caregivers to Focus on Mental Health of Youth and Children
January 15, 2021--On January 27 at 7 p.m., National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Virginia, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) and the Alexandria PTA Council are hosting “Ending the Silence,” a free virtual educational presentation about the warning signs of mental health conditions in children and teens and what steps parents and caregivers can take to help children get the support they need.
The presentation includes warning signs, facts and statistics, how to talk with children and youth and how to work with school staff and healthcare providers. The event also includes a time for a Q&A with Dr. Kynai Johnson, ACPS Director of Social Work, and Dr. Kirimi Fuller, Team Leader for DCHS Child and Family Behavioral Services.
