COVID-19 Resources for Those in Need Web BoxFebruary 25, 2021--Each week, the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) highlights new and existing resources to support individuals and families impacted by the COVID-19 crisis or those in need. 

We encourage residents and faith-based and nonprofit organizations to share these resources with their neighbors and networks. Special Enrollment Period for Affordable Health Insurance Options Open Until May 15

  • Need health insurance? You may be eligible to enroll in short or long-term health coverage during a special enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act through May 15. Learn more.

Free Medicare Workshop March 2

  • DCHS is offering a series of free virtual workshops about Medicare for residents who are new to the health care coverage or a caregiver for a Medicare beneficiary. The next workshop is on Original Medicare, a fee-for-service health plan on March 2, 10-11 a.m. Learn about coverage and cost associated. Register at alexandriava.gov/Aging. 

Meet the Employer Event on March 4, 3-4 p.m.

  • The Workforce Development Center is hosting a free online event for job seekers to learn more about job openings with Goodwin House, a not-for-profit that runs senior communities offering a wide variety of care. Register online.

Energy and Construction Career Training Program begins April 7

  • Goodwill of Greater Washington has launched recruitment for Energy/Construction career training. The 10 week Energy & Construction Career Training program is sponsored by Washington Gas and the goal is for 50% of the graduates to be Northern Virginia residents. This training program pays an hourly stipend of $11.50 and any in-person training will be conducted in Arlington. Learn how to register and access additional training opportunities through the Workforce Development Center.

CVS Vaccination Appointments for Ages 65+ Now Available

  • CVS Pharmacy is now registering Virginians ages 65 and older for COVID-19 vaccination appointments. Alexandrians ages 65 and older can register through CVS or call CVS Customer Service at 800.746.7287 to schedule a vaccine appointment, even if they have already pre-registered through Alexandria Health Department (AHD). Those who have already received their first dose with AHD or at another clinic should get their second dose through the same provider, and not through CVS. At this time, CVS will be distributing vaccines only to those who are ages 65 and older, and by appointment only; no walk-in vaccinations will be provided.
