Register Now for Alexandria Trauma and Resiliency Summit on May 20
April 23, 2021--Registration is open for the Alexandria Trauma and Resiliency Summit on May 20, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., a virtual community-wide event that will feature workshops and presentations focusing on race and social justice, navigating environments and wellness.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is hosted by RAISE, Alexandria’s trauma-informed community network (TICN). RAISE seeks to build a more trauma-informed and resilient community through educating the community, supporting community members and organizations through training and assistance, and elevating community needs and voices.
The event will include an emphasis on skills and strategic approaches that have practical “real world” application. After the Summit, participants will continue to be engaged in a series of learning and sharing activities throughout the year that will build upon the Summit’s workshops. A second summit in 2022 will build on this year’s event, and participants from the 2021 Summit will be encouraged to present on how they applied what they learned over the year.
The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Wendy Ellis, Director of the Center for Community Resilience at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University. The Center seeks to improve the health of communities by enabling cross-sectoral partners to align policy, program and practice to address adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in the context of adverse community environments--or as Ellis coined it, “The Pair of ACEs”--to address long-standing economic, social and health disparities by partnering with community, integrating service delivery and building political will for change.
