Holiday Sharing to Benefit Children, Families, Seniors in Need
For Immediate Release: November 8, 2016
The Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) invites the public to make the 2017 holiday season brighter for the most vulnerable members of our community — low-income families, foster children, seniors and residents with disabilities.
Through the annual Holiday Sharing program, coordinated by the Fund for Alexandria’s Child, sponsors purchase gifts for eligible families and individuals, which are distributed by DCHS staff and volunteers. Gifts of household necessities, clothing, toys and gift cards help ensure that no Alexandrians are left without during the holidays.
This month, volunteers will register more than 700 families in need of assistance. Last year, DCHS assisted 803 families, 194 seniors and persons with disabilities, and nearly 100 children in foster care. Thousands of donated items, and $16,000 in gift certificates and grocery cards were distributed.
Make donation checks payable to The Fund for Alexandria's Child, or to the DCHS Senior Fund, and mail to:

This holiday season, indications point to an increased number of families registering for assistance.
The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is a program within the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services, which works to enhance the quality of life of the most vulnerable children in our community. The value of any contribution is tax-deductible.
