Help raise awareness about the impact of substance abuse and mental illness during a National Recovery Month Community Celebration on Sept. 21, 4-7 p.m., at the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria.

The event will spread the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.

Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover.
