These lists are published in the local newspaper and/or on the City's website. Several months before publishing the list, the City contacts taxpayers who may be on the list to provide them an opportunity to voluntarily settle their liability. Publishing delinquent taxpayers on the list does not prevent the City from pursuing other collection actions.

Please note that this list does not constitute a list of properties subject to judicial sale. Under the guidelines established by the Code of Virginia, properties are subject for judicial sale on the December 31 after the second anniversary of the due date. So, for example, if a property owner owes taxes for the first half of 2016 and all subsequent tax periods, these taxes would not be collectible by judicial sale until December 31, 2018. In practice, it is rare for the City to complete a judicial sale as most delinquent homeowners make arrangements to pay prior to the property becoming subject to judicial sale and the majority of those who enter into the judicial sale process make arrangements to pay prior to the stage where the City would auction the property. If the City were to proceed to judicial sale on any property, the date and time of the auction would be advertised in the legal notices section of a local newspaper.
