Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm. No evening hours are available at this time.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding information and counseling are available at the Casey Health Center and Main Office locations for Alexandria Health Department clients. Services include free manual breast pumps and loans of electric breast pumps to qualified mothers. Please contact us for more information.

BabyCare is a Medicaid approved program provided by the Health Department to foster safe and healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Services are available to eligible pregnant women and/or children up to the age of two. For more information, visit our page

Immunization Services

The Alexandria Health Department offers routine immunizations for infants, teens and adults. Services are available by appointment only and some fees may apply.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment and bring all immunization records and insurance cards for registration. If you do not have health insurance, you may be charged some fees based on a sliding fee scale. Bring a picture ID, proof of income and proof of address to determine eligibility.

Newcomer Health Services

Services for newly arrived refugees into the country include health and tuberculosis screening, and physicals for newly arrived refugees into the country and and with referral(s) to other health, mental health and social services in the City.

Nutrition Services/WIC

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provides vouchers for nutritious food benefits, nutrition counseling, promotes breastfeeding and provides breastfeeding support to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, and for infants and children up to the age of 5 years. All services are by appointment only. 

Health and nutrition programs are also available for educational and nonprofit groups in the community (depending on staff availability). For more information about WIC and what to bring for an appointment, please consult Virginia Department of Health's WIC site.

Opioid/Narcan

Narcan® (also known as Naloxone) is a safe, effective antidote for opioids. It can stop an overdose and restore normal breathing until emergency response can arrive. It is easy to get and easy to use.

This medication is not just for people with an opioid dependence or addiction. If you or a loved one are prescribed opioid painkillers, or are taking opioids, you should have Narcan on hand. The Virginia Board of Medicine requires that physicians prescribe Narcan if opioid prescriptions exceed 120 MME per day.

Free, confidential Narcan education and dispensing is available. No eligibility requirements.

OB/GYN Services

The pharmacy provides selected medications for uninsured patients of the Health Department and Neighborhood Health. Please call for more information.

  • Wednesday: 9 a.m.  - 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
