Information for 2019

WHAT: Help Alexandria’s City archaeologists excavate a real archaeological site! Learn professional excavating, recording, and artifact processing methods. Uncover Alexandria’s buried past while protecting the City’s valuable historic resources.

WHO: Ages: 12 - 15.

WHEN: Monday-Friday, July 15-19, 2019. From 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: The Alexandria Archaeology Museum, and a real archaeological site in Alexandria.

COST: $400 with available scholarships. Payment can be made online at The Alexandria Shop. Refunds cannot be made after June 1, 2019.

Fort Ward camperCivil War Kids Camp

Information for 2019

WHAT:  Learn about life during the Civil War at this fun and educational history camp sponsored by Fort Ward Museum.  Camp activities include learning about Civil War drills, music, equipment and army shelter, playing 19th-century games, craft projects like making a Civil War fort, and interacting with guest reenactors. A kids’ tour of Fort Ward is also featured.  

WHO: Boys and girls ages 8-12

WHEN: June 24-28, 2019, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day (rain or shine)

WHERE: Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site, 4301 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22304

COST: $250 fee includes snacks, kepi, equipment and craft supplies. Children should bring a bag lunch and a water bottle each day.

REGISTRATION: Submit your Registration Form in person or by mail, along with your check made out to City of Alexandria. Registration is limited to the first 24 applicants. Federal employees should contact the Museum for information about a discount rate and deferred payment.


Children Creating Timeline imageClio’s Kids: A History Mini-Camp

Information for 2019

WHAT: Clio's Kids introduces children to American history and life in historic Alexandria through artifacts, storytelling, singing and crafts, "old-fashioned" games, and visits to nearby historic places.

Our theme for 2019 is “To and Fro and Away We Go!” We’ll be learning about transportation in and around Alexandria in the past and today, focusing on different aspects of transportation and travel each day of camp. Campers should come prepared for outside activities each day, including sturdy walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.     

WHO: Children ages 5 - 7

WHERE: Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314

WHEN: July 16, 17 & 18, 2019, from 9 a.m. to noon (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)

COST: The fee is $115 and includes snacks and souvenirs.
