Covid-19 Operation Guidelines
The Office of Historic Alexandria established the following guidelines to ensure consistent operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff will regularly re-evaluate them through the remainder of 2020 based on available staffing levels and as the region moves through Phase 3 of the Forward Virginia plan. Includes guidelines for guided tours, volunteers, rentals, public programs and events, and on-site research and collections use by the public.
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Visitor Services volunteers staff the front desk of the museum and provide basic greeting and orientation to our guests. On different days this might involve discussing the exhibitions, answering questions, giving directions, collecting admission fees, offering restaurant and shopping suggestions and directing telephone calls to museum staff members.
Collections Care and Research volunteers assist the museum's Curator in developing new exhibitions and maintaining the collection of more than 5,000 objects. They also conduct independent research projects.
Museum Teachers are volunteers who help with the museum's student programs, primarily held on weekday mornings. Volunteers lead walking tours of Old Town and facilitate programs exploring reproduction objects and our museum galleries for preschool to middle school aged students.
