The City of Alexandria is working with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the region's localities to assist travelers during WMATA's SafeTrack initiative. During SafeTrack Surge 8, which now begins August 27 through September 11, WMATA expects extreme crowding and delays on trains traveling between Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield stations. SafeTrack is an initiative of the WMATA to rehabilitate the Metrorail system to improve safety and reliability.

Bike for Good Food Rescue will be transporting fresh, locally grown food donated by our generous vendors using bicycles to area locations serving low-income and at-risk Alexandria residents on August 27.  Food rescue events are the last Saturday of the month from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm.  If you want to help out sign up at Volunteer Alexandria (type in "Bike for Good" in the Keyword Search) or email BikeforGood@alexandriava.gov for more information.  Come join the fun!
