Del Ray Pedestrian Improvements

What's Happening?

To mitigate the impact of additional vehicle traffic from the Potomac Yard development in East Del Ray, the citizens worked with the City to identify pedestrian safety improvements that would help promote alternative forms of transportation to and from the neighborhood.   The study areas spanned from Mount Vernon Avenue in the east to Jefferson Davis Highway in the west.  East Monroe Avenue and Hume Avenue were the southern and northern boundaries, respectively.   On May 13th, 2013 the Del Ray Citizens Association unanimously approved the package of proposed improvements.

Improvements were implemented in the summer of 2013 and include nearly 100 new crosswalks throughout the neighborhood, refurbished crosswalks along the Mount Vernon Avenue retail corridor, new decorative brick crosswalks at the entrance to the neighborhood along Jefferson Davis Highway, new pedestrian safety signage and signal improvements.   The full presentation can be viewed HERE.
