In 2012, Alexandria City Council approved the recommendations from the Union Street Corridor Study. Recommendations of this study included implementation of improved pedestrian crossings and a pilot pedestrian plaza at the foot of King Street and Union Street until the full build out of the Waterfront Plan could be implemented. Staff has been working in conjunction with the Waterfront Commission to design and implement this new public space. The plaza will include public seating, tables and umbrellas. This updated street space will help to attract residents and tourist to businesses, restaurants and parks along the Waterfront.
