City Recognized for Low Income Housing Renovation

The City and the nonprofit Community Lodgings, Inc. (CLI) have been selected for the Audrey Nelson Award by the National Community Development Association (NCDA).  The award, presented on February 1, recognized the City for its support of CLI to renovate a 10-unit apartment building for homeless or low income families.  The renovation will create modern, energy efficient, safe and stable housing for the families. The project is valued at over $900,000 with a scope that includes gutting and rebuilding the structure.  The City provided $550,000 in HOME Program financing for the project.  CLI owns the property, and HomeAid Northern Virginia and Pulte Homes completed the work. For more information, contact the City’s Office of Housing at 703.746.4990.

City Seeks Employee Input on Housing Master Plan

As a part of the City’s outreach effort on the Draft Housing Master Plan, employees of the City and ACPS are being encouraged to provide comments and share their experiences with affordable housing issues. Employees and other interested parties may attend the upcoming Town Hall meeting on February 11 at Jefferson-Houston Elementary School, 1501 Cameron Street, from 7-9 p.m., or submit comments online or directly to the City’s Office of Housing.  Following work sessions with the Planning Commission and City Council, the Draft Housing Master Plan is expected to be presented for a public hearing with City Council in May or June.
