City of Alexandria Provides COVID-19 Updates; Running Errands Safely; National Police Week

The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Health Department (AHD) strongly urge everyone to follow state orders to STAY HOME except for essential trips such as food purchases and medical care. If you must leave your home, keep 6 feet apart from others when in public, and wear a cloth face covering if you cannot maintain physical distance. Your neighbors and loved ones are counting on you to stop the spread of COVID-19. 

 Running Essential Errands Safely

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided updated advice about how to stay safe and healthy when running essential errands, such as buying groceries and medicine, and completing banking activities. Topics covered include shopping for groceries and household essentials; accepting delivery and takeout orders; banking; getting gasoline; and going to the doctor or getting medicine.

National Police Week

National Police Week, May 10-16, honors the brave individuals of our nation’s local, state, and federal law enforcement community, including the Alexandria Police Department and Alexandria Sheriff’s Office. These professionals are dedicated to protecting the community and helping enhance our quality of life. Many thanks to all law enforcement personnel across the country for their commitment and service, especially during a time of increased stress and risk during the  COVID-19 pandemic.

Police Week is also a special time to remember law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice, including 19 members of the Police Department and Sheriff’s Office known to have died in the line of duty. On May 15, agency representatives joined the Alexandria Retired Police, Fire & Sheriff Association to hold a wreath-laying ceremony at the law enforcement officer memorial in Waterfront Park.

64 New COVID-19 Cases and 2 New Fatalities Added in Alexandria

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Alexandria is now 1,460, including 34 fatalities. Detailed data is available through the links at It is critical for all community members, even those who don't have a diagnosed illness, to stay home except for essential trips such as brief visits to the pharmacy, doctor, or grocery store.
