Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities Announces Winners of the 2020 ACPD and Chamber of Commerce Awards

For Immediate Release: October 15, 2020

The Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities (ACPD), in conjunction with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, have announced the winners of their annual awards, which will be presented via prerecorded video on October 22.

The following individuals will be recognized by the ACPD:

  • Anastasia Duenes, a student at Northern Virginia Community College, is the recipient of the Gerry Bertier Scholarship, which is awarded to an Alexandria resident or student with a disability who is seeking postsecondary education.

  • Brian Miller, former Chair of the Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities, is the recipient of the John Duty Collins III Outstanding Advocate for Persons with Disabilities Award, posthumously. The award recognizes an individual who advocates for and contributes to the promotion of equal opportunity for people with disabilities in Alexandria. 

The following organizations will be recognized with Disability Awareness Awards by the ACPD and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce:

  • Pink Fortitude will be recognized for its commitment to promoting positive awareness among employees about the needs of customers with disabilities and for making special efforts to render goods or services accessible to persons with disabilities.

  • Senior Services of Alexandria will be recognized for its commitment to providing critical services to the community amidst a global crisis.

The awardees will be honored in a video with closed captions posted on the Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities web page.
