Saturday, October 24 – Civil War Sesquicentennial Meeting
A second Civil War Sesquicentennial community planning meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, 101 Callahan Dr. A speaker from the Virginia Tourism Corporation will facilitate sessions to plan programs for Alexandria’s commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Tuesday, October 27 – Deadline for Absentee Ballot Applications
The Alexandria Office of Voter Registration and Elections reminds voters who wish to vote absentee by mail that ballot applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27. These applications may be faxed to 703.838.6449. Applications may be downloaded from www.alexandriavoter.org. For more information, call 703.746.4050.
Thursday, October 29 – Beauregard Corridor Plan Initial Community Meeting
The City invites individuals and organizations to share their issues, concerns, and ideas for the future of the Beauregard Corridor planning area. City staff will provide a brief introduction of the planning team, and will present the proposed schedule and planning process for development of the plan. Friday, October 30 – Artist Applications Due for Alexandria Police Memorial
The City of Alexandria has issued a Call for Artists for the Alexandria Police Memorial at the Alexandria Police Department headquarters, 3534 Wheeler Ave., currently under construction. The City is conducting the search for qualified applicants through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ.) Friday, October 30 – City Board, Commission, and Committee Applications Due
The Alexandria City Council is seeking applicants to fill several vacancies on City of Alexandria boards, commissions and committees. City Council will act on these vacancies at the November 10, 2009 City Council meeting. All applicants must complete a Personal Data Record Form and return it to the City Clerk’s Office or file the form online no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009. Tuesday, November 3 – Virginia General Election
The Alexandria Office of Voter Registration and Elections reminds voters who wish to vote in Virginia’s General Election that voting hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 3. The Ballot will include the Offices of Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Virginia House of Delegates, Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney, and Sheriff. The City of Alexandria has mailed bills for the second half 2009 Real Estate Tax and Refuse Fee to all property owners and mortgage companies. If you do not receive a real estate tax bill in the mail by November 2 and do not have your real estate tax paid by your mortgage company, please e-mail email@example.com or call 703.746.3902.
