I do not have a computer, what do I do?

  • Visit our Employment office and use our public access computer.
  • Visit the City of Alexandria's Workforce Development Center, at 1900 N. Beauregard St., Suite 300, and use their computer lab.
  • Use a public-access computer at your neighborhood library.

The online application system says I need an email address, how do I get one?

Free email services are available by numerous service providers.

Can more than one person use the login?

No. The login is assigned to one person and should not be shared.

I do not see the job that I am interested in today. Does the City have more career opportunities?

You are encouraged to fill out a job interest card with the City of Alexandria. This feature provides you with the opportunity to select a job(s) by Job Class or Category of interest to you, which will generate automatic email notifications when a position is advertised.

May I submit a resume?

A completed online application is required and allows you to attach a file or copy and paste information into a resume section if you wish to do so.

Can I add/change information on my application after it is submitted?

Once you submit an application, after 24-hours have passed, and provided the position is still open, you may retrieve your application, make changes and resubmit. Supplemental questions for the position, if applicable, will also need to be resubmitted with your application.

How do I know that the City has successfully received my online application?

After you have submitted your online application you will receive a confirmation. You can also check your own password-protected profile for verification that you have successfully sent your application.

How long does it take to process my application?

It takes approximately 7 to 10 business days (after the position closes) for the Personnel Analyst to process applications, depending on the number of the applications received and the number of positions advertised. For “Continuous” positions, applications will be reviewed periodically, unless stated otherwise.

How will I be notified of my application status?

On your application you have the choice of receiving your notifications via email or via US mail (paper). We recommend email.

How do I check the status of my application?

You may check the status of your application at any time from alexandriava.gov/Jobs, select CHECK STATUS and log into your account.

Applications that you have saved in your account do not expire.
