The Department of Planning and Zoning is making recommendations to modify and amend the City’s Floor Area Ratio (FAR) regulations through a text amendment to the City’s Zoning Ordinance. FAR regulates the maximum amount of building square footage that can be developed on a property based on its lot size. The recommended changes are intended to clarify and update the existing regulations to reduce ambiguity and to address current building practices while continuing to avoid excess building bulk in the city.
These recommended changes were created as a result of recommendations from the Planning Commission and were made in consultation with key stakeholders including NAIOP: The Commercial Real Estate Development Association, neighborhood associations, local architects and builders, and resident groups. The proposed text amendment is scheduled to be presented to the Planning Commission on January 4, 2018 and to City Council on January 20, 2018.
