Forecast Process

As a member jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), the City of Alexandria participates in a cooperative forecast for the region. As part of the cooperative process, the City prepares a 25- year population and employment forecast for each Transportation Analysis Zone (TAZ) in the City. More information can be found on MWCOG's website.

Student Generation

In conjunction with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), the Department of Planning & Zoning analyzes student enrollment data to identify student generation rates by type of housing within the city. The student generation rate is the ratio of the number of students enrolled in ACPS to the total number of dwelling units in the city. Identifying patterns in student generation rates can assist in predicting future student enrollment as areas of the city redevelop and the housing mix changes over time.
