Information Services takes reports, provides proof of a police report, provides a criminal history check, and other services such as finger printing.

The Information Services Section is located at Police Headquarters and accessed in the lobby.  It is open to the public from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed to the public on weekends and holidays.

Warrants:

For warrant information on yourself, you must appear, with ID, in person at Police Headquarters. Please do not call as warrant information will not be discussed over the telephone. You may appear at any time to see if there is a warrant for you at Police Headquarters.

Criminal Background Checks:

You may obtain a local Alexandria Criminal History Record for $10 (exact change), if you demonstrate that you are/were a City resident, seek employment or housing in the City, or have a local criminal record in Alexandria.  In order to obtain this information you must provide two forms of identification, one of these must be a picture ID.  You must also provide proof (lease agreement, utility bill, etc...) that you reside or resided in Alexandria.  Please note that your Alexandria Criminal History Check provides information that occurred only in the City of Alexandria.  If you require a state wide check, then you need to contact Virginia State Police at 804.674.2024 for further instructions.  Please call 703.746.6200 if you have any questions regarding what type of documents you need to obtain this service. 

The below listed documents may be utilized as a form of identification:

  • Valid Operator's License or  ID Card
  • Valid Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate (no copies)
  • Valid Military ID

Insurance Verifications: 

Police reports are not released; however an Insurance Verification form may be requested. Involved parties may obtain an Insurance Verification form for their police report for $10 (exact change).  These forms are accepted by insurance companies as proof a police report was completed.

Lost/Stolen Passports:

If your passport is from a foreign country and has been lost/stolen/missing, you may report the matter to your embassy or to the INS; do not report the matter to the Alexandria Police Department.

Crash Reports:

Individuals involved in a reportable motor vehicle crash, may obtain a copy of their report for $5 (exact change). Access to crash reports are also available online at http://www.crashd ocs.org/va-alexandriapd.
